Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator MCSA

The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator MCSA Certification on Microsoft Windows 2000 is designed for professionals who implement, manage, and troubleshoot existing network and system environments based on the Microsoft Windows® 2000 and Windows .NET Server platforms. The new Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator MCSA on Microsoft Windows® 2000 credential will advance your career by ensuring you have the skills to successfully manage and troubleshoot system environments running on the Windows 2000 operating system.

The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator MCSA Certification credential proves that you have the skills to successfully implement, manage, and troubleshoot the ongoing needs of Microsoft Windows® 2000–based operating environments, including Windows .NET Server.

An MCSA candidate should have six to 12 months of experience working with a desktop operating system, a network operating system, and an existing network infrastructure.

Plans for 2003

Microsoft plans to announce the full requirements for the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and MCSA on Windows Server 2003 in early 2003. In response to customer feedback, the MCP program will offer an upgrade path consisting of one or two exams that will enable current MCSEs on Windows 2000 and MCSAs on Windows 2000 to update their respective certification to the Windows Server 2003 track in a time- and cost-effective manner. Complete details about the upgrade offer will be announced in early 2003. Individuals should continue to pursue training and certification in Windows 2000 because skills acquired for Windows 2000 are highly relevant to and provide a solid foundation for Windows Server. To retain certification, MCSEs on Windows 2000 and MCSAs on Windows 2000 will not be required to pass Windows Server 2003 exams.

Choose the MCSA Certification credential if you:

  • Manage, support, and troubleshoot the ongoing needs of Microsoft Windows® server-based operating environments.
  • Have six to 12 months of experience managing and supporting a desktop server and network operations in an existing network infrastructure.
Job title examples include:
