Will there be an overlap period between the current exam and the revised exam that will launch on January 31, 2001?

To ensure your certification under the 1998 objectives we encourage you to complete the certification requirements before January 31, 2001. However, CompTIA understands the time constraints in your professional career and will allow a grace period to complete your certification on the 1998 objectives through March 30, 2001. You may schedule and complete the A+ certification exams covering the 1998 objectives through March 30, 2001.

What are the criteria to become A+ certified on the 1998 objectives during the grace period?

In order to become A+ certified you must pass both exams (A+ Core Service Technician Exam and A+ DOS/Windows Service Technician Exam) covering the 1998 test objectives or both exams (A+ Core Hardware Exam and A+ OS Technologies Exam) covering the 2001 objectives. You WILL NOT become A+ certified if you pass one exam covering the 1998 test objectives and one exam covering the 2001 test objectives.

Will I be able to become A+ certified on the 1998 objectives after March 30, 2001?

After March 30, 2001, the exams covering the 1998 test objectives (A+ Core Service Technician Exam and A+ DOS/Windows Service Technician Exam), WILL BE retired and NO longer available. NO exceptions will be made.

During the grace period (through March 30, 2001) will the A+ exams covering the 1998 objectives be in a conventional/standard format or an adaptive format?

The English A+ exams covering the 1998 objectives will be offered in the adaptive format only during the grace period. The translated exams will continue to be offered in the linear format.

If I complete my A+ exams on the 1998 objectives during the grace period, will there be a delay in receiving my certificate from CompTIA?

No, there will not be a delay in receiving your certificate. Your certificate will be mailed within four to six weeks.

Will the A+ exams covering the 2001 objectives include Linux?

Linux will not be included in the A+ exams covering the 2001 objectives.

Will the A+ exams, covering the 2001 objectives, be available in languages other than English when it goes live on January 31, 2001?

The A+ exams will launch in English only on January 31, 2001. The translations will be available in the Third quarter of 2001.

Will the A+ exams covering the 2001 objectives be offered in a conventional/standard format or an adaptive format?

The exams will only be offered in the conventional format.

Will the 90-day rule come back into effect when the revised exams (covering the 2001 objectives) launch on January 31, 2001?

The 90-day rule WILL NOT come back into effect when the revised exams launch.

What is the minimum passing score needed for the A+ exams covering the 2001 objectives?

The minimum passing scores will be determined once statistical information has been reviewed from the beta exams.

How do I register for the revised A+ exams that will launch on January 31, 2001?

A+ exams, in English, covering the 1998 objectives have the following test codes:
A+ Adaptive Core 220-121
A+ Adaptive DOS/Windows 220-122

A+ exams covering the 2001 objectives have the following exam codes:
A+ Core Hardware 220-201
A+ OS Technologies 220-202
