• Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you are a member of the administration team at a claims repricing firm. You have been assigned the task of bringing the staff up to date on
HIPAA. You have attended a number of informative HIPAA seminars, and today you meet with several others to discuss HIPAA basics.
Unit 2: HIPAA Privacy Rule 0.5 - 1 hour
• Identify the purposes of the Privacy Rule.
• Identify what the Privacy Rule requires a covered entity to do.
• Identify the information covered by the Privacy Rule.
• Identify PHI constraints Business Associates face.
• Identify guidelines for sharing PHI with others.
• Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you are a member of the administration team at a large claims repricing office. Your manager has made it your responsibility to bring the staff
up to date about HIPAA. You have attended a number of informative HIPAA seminars and now you and Tom Kennedy, the Claims Repricing Manager, are meeting others to discuss privacy.
Unit 3: HIPAA and Notice 1 - 2 hours
• Identify characteristics of notice.
• Identify characteristics of authorization.
• Identify characteristics of consent.
• Identify guidelines for dealing with a medical information request.
• Identify the exceptional cases where a parent may not be the personal representative.
• Identify the situations where disclosures can be made to group health sponsors.
• Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you are a member of the administration team at a
claims repricing firm. Your manager has made it your responsibility to bring the staff up to date about HIPAA. You have been conducting training exercises for several days now, and
today's focus of discussion is authorization and consent. You are meeting with Claire Holmes, Senior Claims Manager, Joanne Warren, Claims Clerk, and Simon Kinsale, PPO Administrator.
