Loopback
Parallel Loopback Plug/MCA
The Omni Analyzer/ExperTrace parallel loopback test is designed to take advantage of the Omni-Loopback Parallel loopback plug, which is specially designed to thoroughly test both printer cables and the parallel port integrity. The
connector is unique in that it has an LED display which allows direct monitoring of the data line signals. The ten-LED register depicts eight data lines (D1toD8) and two
inactive lines (or "spares"), which appear in sequences. The parallel loopback can also be used as a Micro Channel Post Card. Micro Channel Computers use the
parallel port to display POST codes. The LED's D1 to D4 display the first hexadecimal digit, and D5 to D8 display the second digit to convert binary code to hexadecimal
POST codes. For example D1=off, D2=off, D3=off, D4=on would be (0001)=1 in hexadecimal, and D5=off, D6=off, D7=on, D8=on would be (0011)=3 in hexadecimal. Therefore the hexadecimal post code is
13. Top quality connectors and components are mounted on printed circuit board.
Serial Loopback Plug
The Omni Analyzer/ExperTrace external serial loopback test is designed to take advantage of the special Omni-Loopback Serial loopback plug. Serial interfaces are more thoroughly tested using this loopback because
ExperTrace loads specified signals on the data lines to more closely approximate the activity of a real serial device. Again all components are board mounted.
