MCSA Certification Training

Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator candidates are required to pass three core exams and one elective exam.

Candidates should have six to 12 months of experience implementing and administering a desktop operating system, implementing and administering a network operating system, and managing an existing network infrastructure.

Microsoft MCSA 2003 Certification Training Courses A+ and Network+

Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) candidates on the Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003 track are required to satisfy the following requirements:

Core Exams (3 Exams Required)
Two networking system exams
Exam 70–290: Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment
Exam 70–291: Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure

One client operating system exam
Exam 70–270: Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Exam 70-210: Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

Elective Exams (1 Exam Required)
Exam 70-228: Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft SQL Server™ 2000 Enterprise Edition
Exam 70-299: Implementing and Administering Security in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network
CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+ Combined
CompTIA Security+
CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Server+ Combined

Together with the core exams, the elective exams provide a valid and reliable measure of technical proficiency and expertise to successfully manage and maintain the typically complex computing environment of medium-to- large-sized companies. MCSA candidates should have 6–12 months of experience administering client and network operating systems.

Upgrade Exam (1 Exam Required)
Microsoft has designed an upgrade path that will enable a current MCSA on Windows® 2000 to earn the Windows Server 2003 credential in a time- and cost-effective manner.

Core Certification Requirement Exams

Candidates have the option to complete their certifications with Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional/Windows .NET Server exams or a combination of both for a total of three core operating system exams.

Client Operating System Certification Exams (1 Required)

  • 70-210 —Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • 70-270 —Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Networking System Certification Exams (2 Required)

Candidates must choose one exam from each pair of alternatives shown. For example, a candidate must pass either exam 70-215 or exam 70-275, but will not receive credit for both if both are passed.

  • 70-215—Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • 70-275—Installing, Configuring and Administering Microsoft Windows .NET Server (Available Late 2003)
  • 70-218—Managing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Environment (Available January 2002) 
  • 70-278—Managing a Microsoft Windows .NET Server Network Environment (Available 2002)

  • 70-228 — Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition
  • 70-244 — Supporting and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Network

Alternative to the electives listed above
The following third-party certification combinations may be substituted for an MCSA elective:

  • CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+ certification
  • CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Server+ certification
